Yoruba Union Bids Farewell to Pa Adebanjo, Hails Him As ‘True Omoluabi’, Defender Of People

The Yoruba Union, also known as Ìgbìnmó Májékóbájé Ilé-Yorùbá, has paid tribute to the late Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo, describing him as a compassionate elder statesman who lived a life of integrity, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to the Yoruba cause.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the union’s convener, Olusola Oluwaseyi Badero, the organisation mourned the passing of Adebanjo, commanding his steadfast advocacy for true federalism, national restructuring, and social justice.

He explained that chief Adebanjo was an elder with compassion, self-worth, and selflessness.

He described the late Yoruba leader as “a real fighter” whose lifelong dedication to the promotion of Yoruba interests and national progress made him a shining example of what true leadership means.

“In an era where the older generation is often indifferent to the future of the youth, Pa Adebanjo stood tall. He lived an emulatable life of service and sacrifice. In these perilous times, he left his footprints in the sands of time. A true Omoluabi,” Badero said.

The Yoruba Union emphasised that Adebanjo’s legacy would remain a guiding light, especially in a society grappling with moral decay and leadership failure.

“Baba, throughout his life, defended the rights of the people and was committed to the interest of the Yoruba race. He sustained the legacy of Chief Obafemi Awolowo by consistently advocating for the restructuring of Nigeria and the adoption of a true federal system of government.

“He was an elder statesman who stood against corruption and nepotism, and consistently pushed for a just and equitable Nigeria.”

The Union noted that Adebanjo’s death marked the end of an era but insisted his life remains a template for future generations.

“He lived an emulate-able life of service and sacrifice. At a time when seeing elders with compassion and courage is increasingly rare, Baba Adebanjo shone brightly. His memory will forever be a beacon for those who believe in justice and equity.”

Describing him as “a rare gem,” Badero said Adebanjo was a man of integrity who resisted political manipulation and refused to compromise his principles.

“His selfless service to the Yoruba people and the Nigerian nation at large will forever be remembered. May his soul rest in perfect peace,” he added.
