T+2 Equity Settlement Cycle in Nigerian Capital Market Begins Today

Effective today Friday, 28 November 2025, the Nigerian Capital Market will officially transition from a T+3 to a T+2 settlement cycle for equity transactions.

This important market wide change is designed to render a faster, smoother investing experience.

To an Investor, this means from November 28, all equity trades will settle two business days after transaction.

For instance, if one buy shares or other equities on a Monday, the trade will settle by Wednesday.

That means, if one sells shares or other equities on a Monday, proceeds of the sale’s ‘money’ will also be available by Wednesday.

The transition to T+2 brings ensures faster settlement and several other benefits that directly improve investing experience.

This transition from T+3 to T+2 is focused at ensuring faster access to funds after selling shares. It will also ensure improved liquidity, making the market more active and efficient. Also, the lower settlement timelines, gives the investor more peace of mind.

Meanwhile, earlier, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) had announced that the Nigerian capital market will officially transition to a T+2 settlement cycle for equities transactions from Friday, November 28, 2025, in a move designed to align with global best practices and enhance market efficiency.
