Shell MD, Osagie Okunbor, bids farewell after 39 years of service

The Country Chairman of Shell Companies Nigeria, Mr. Osagie Okunbor, is set to retire this month after 39 years of dedicated service.

The announcement was made by the company’s Communications Manager, Mrs. Gladys Afam-Anadu, who disclosed that a pre-retirement event had commenced on Tuesday in Abuja.

Executive Vice President, Nigeria, Mr. Marno de Jong, described Okunbor as a respected leader in Shell and the broader industry.

“We will all miss his presence, and we wish him a most enjoyable retirement,” he said.

De Jong highlighted Okunbor’s valuable contributions to the industry, particularly in the areas of Nigerian content, Deepwater, and Integrated Gas.

Okunbor, in his remarks, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve Nigeria on a global platform offered by Shell. “It has been an honour of a lifetime serving Nigeria on a global platform offered by Shell,” he said.

He credited Shell’s values of honesty, integrity, and respect for people for guiding his modest contributions to the industry.

Meanwhile, Marno de Jong will take on the additional responsibilities of Country Chair, Shell Companies Nigeria, following Okunbor’s retirement.

Okunbor’s illustrious career spans over four decades, with notable roles in Nigeria, the UK, Brunei, and the Netherlands. He received the Dr. Alirio Parra Lifetime Achievement Award in the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry in 2022, among several other honours
