Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has said he will not go low with the camp of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, which is opposing the national convention of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state. Speaking to journalists on Thursday, in Lagos, after the Southern Zonal Consultative Meeting of the party, Makinde, who was asked about the threat from the Wike group regarding the party’s convention, simply said, “Personally, when people go low, or they go into the gutters, I don’t go with them. Some people are not going into the gutters. We will reach out to them. That is democracy.”

“I can disagree with people, but there shouldn’t be anything personal here. It should be about what we are giving to Nigerians because they are watching,” Makinde stated.

“In all our states, they showed last Saturday that PDP is not dead. In most other places of the 12 states, PDP came second. It is an indication to us that if we continue to work hard, we can reclaim the confidence of Nigerians.”

Earlier, Wike had threatened that there may be a fresh crisis if the PDP re fused to acknowledge the zonal congress that elected Dan Orbih as National Vice Chairman, South-South.

He was quoted as saying this during Channels TV’s Politics Today programme on Tuesday.

“Well, it is over for now. There are a few things remaining and I have told them that they must do it. Our congress was held in Calabar, and there’s nothing anybody can tell us. If they want to have another round of crisis, so be it,” he said.
