Nigeria’s GDP Rate Records’ 4.4% Growth in Q2…… NBS

The National Bureau of Statistics says Nigeria’s economy grew by 4.43 per cent in real terms in the second quarter (Q2) of 2026.

The bureau announced the development in its latest GDP report for Q2 2026 on Monday.

The latest growth rate is higher than the 4.23 per cent recorded in Q2 2025, indicating a 0.2 percentage-point increase year-on-year.

The agency said during the quarter under review, agriculture grew by 4.39 per cent, “an improvement from the 2.82% recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025”.

“The growth of the industry sector stood at 3.96% from 7.46% recorded in the second quarter of 2025, while the services sector recorded a growth of 4.60% from 3.94% in the same quarter of 2025,” the NBS report said.

“In terms of share of the GDP, the services sector con- tributed more to the aggregate GDP in the second quarter of 2026 at 56.62% compared to the corresponding quarter of 2025 at 56.53%.”

In the quarter under review, the statistics body said the aggregate GDP stood at N119.27 trillion in nominal terms.

The NBS said the performance is higher when compared to the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, which recorded an aggregate GDP of N100.7 trillion, indicating a year-on-year nominal growth of 18.43 percent.

On the other hand, Nigeria’s real GDP stood at N53.47 trillion in Q2 2026.

OIL Production rose to 1.63 million BPD in Q2 2026

The bureau further said the country recorded an average daily.

Compared to the same quarter in 2025, the NBS said the record is lower than the daily average production of 1.68 mbpd by 0.05 mbpd, and lower than the first quarter of 2026 production volume of 1.55 mbpd by 0.17 mbpd.

“The real growth of the oil sector was 7.31 (year-on-year) in Q2 2026, indicating a decrease of 13.15% points relative to the rate recorded in the corresponding quarter of 2025 (20.46%),” the NBS said.

“Growth increased by 4.74% points when compared to Q1 2026, which was 2.57%. On a quarter-on-quarter basis, the oil sector recorded a growth rate of 10.91% in Q2 2026.”

The report noted that the oil sector contributed 4.16 percent to the total real GDP in Q2 2026, up from the figure recorded in the corresponding period of 2025 at 4.05 percent — up from the preceding quarter, where it contributed 3.92 percent.

NON-OIL SECTOR CONTRIBUTED 95% TO GDP IN Q2 2026

According to the NBS, in real terms, the non-oil sector contributed 95.84 per cent to the nation’s GDP in the first quarter of 2026.
