NDLEA Intercepts UK-Bound Drugs in Duvet at Lagos Airport, Arrests Two Suspects

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a consignment of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, concealed in a duvet at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos. The illicit drugs, weighing 3.5 kilograms, were being prepared for export to the United Kingdom via the airport’s cargo shed.
Two suspects, Adakole Sunday and Austin Balogun, were arrested on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, in connection with the consignment. Austin Balogun, the alleged mastermind, confessed that he received N700,000 to facilitate the export but spent the money on export handling charges and personal expenses.
In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives raided a hideout in Igbo Olumo, Ikorodu, Lagos, where they arrested Joseph Oluwasegun Adewale and Biodun Adelakun. The raid led to the recovery of seven liters of skuchies—a psychoactive mixture of black currant, cannabis, and opioids—alongside an arsenal of weapons, including three locally made double-barrel rifles, an English-made pistol, a single-barrel rifle, cartridges, and an axe.

In Gefen Kasa, Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, a cannabis plantation was destroyed, and a suspect, Sabo Ali Muhammad (45), was arrested in connection with the farm.
Meanwhile, the NDLEA intensified its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) initiative through sensitization programs in schools, workplaces, worship centers, and communities across the country. Notable advocacy visits were held at Army Children Secondary School in Oyo, Government Day Secondary School in Kebbi and Niger states, St. Dominic Comprehensive College in Akwa Ibom, and District Junior College in Lagos, among others.
Commending the officers for their efforts, NDLEA Chairman/CEO Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) praised the achievements of the MMIA, Lagos, Kano, Kwara, and Ekiti Commands in the past week. He also lauded the agency’s dedication to its WADA advocacy efforts nationwide.
