Maritime: Human Capital Development, Policy, Critical to Nigeria’s Economy Growth

Nigerian maritime stakeholders have reassured the critical role of human capital development, and new policy alignment in harnessing and lifting Nigeria’s economic advancement as well as further enhancing the global rating of the country’s maritime sector.

This stand was consensus stand of stakeholders who brainstormed at the 2025 conference of the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria (AMJON) in collaboration with NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited, on Friday at the main hall of Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja with a theme: Maritime Development: Training, Ports Efficiency and Shipping Imperatives.

Various government agencies were on hand to present papers that define their roles and suggest the way forward for better efficiency within the Maritime sector of the Nigerian economy.

NLNG Shipping and Marine Services Limited, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), and the Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron, unveiled the future and developmental strides Nigeria is positioned for attain, driven by the Nigerian maritime sector’s new policy initiatives and human capital development.

The NSML’s Managing Director, Mr. Abdulkadir Ahmed, in his address at the Association of Maritime Journalists of Nigeria AMJON Conference held at the Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday said that the maritime industry, which serves as the backbone of global trade, is experiencing swift regulatory changes driven by environmental concerns, technological advancements, and human capital needs.
