FG Increases Passport Booklets Fees Twice in Two years by 200%

Nigerian government has made a record two increases on passport booklets in two years, 2024 and 2025. While in 2024 the charges were raised to N50, 000 and N100, 000 respectively for the 34 pages and 62 pages passport booklets. To mark the one-year anniversary of the 2024 increase which was taken to effect on August 21, the FG on August 29, 2025 announced further price increases by 100 per cent. The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has announced an upward review of the cost of securing the Nigerian Standard Passport, effective September 1, 2025. The both the two categories of Nigeria passport book- lets in two years have posted 200 per cent rise in price.

Meanwhile, the Service Public Relations Officer, Assistant Controller of Immigration, ACI AS Akinlabi, made this known in a statement he issued on Thursday to newsmen. According to the statement, the new fees will apply only to applications made within Nigeria.

“The review which only affects Passport Application fees made in Nigeria, now set a new fee threshold for 32- page with 5-year validity at N100, 000 and 64-page with 10-year validity at N200, 000,” the statement read. It further clarified that application fees for Nigerians in the diaspora remain unchanged at $150 for the 32-page, five-year passport and $230 for the 64-page, 10-year passport.

The service said the adjustment was aimed at maintaining the quality and integrity of the Nigerian passport while ensuring accessibility for citizens.

It will be recalled that in a memo titled “FG approves an upward review of Nigerian passport fees to ensure quality and integrity” dated 21 August 2024, e-signed by DCI KT Udo, service Public Relations Officer Abuja, increased 34 pages passport booklet with five years validity previously charged at N35, 000 to N50, 000, while 64 pages passport booklet with ten year validity which was N70, 000 was increased to N100, 000 only, while the fees remain unchanged in the diaspora.

The reason for the passport booklet increase, the Nigerian government said, was to maintain the quality and integrity of the Nigerian standard passport.

The Nigerian Immigrations services, said that while it regrets any inconveniences the increase may cause prospective applicants, it assures Nigerians of unwavering commitment transparency and quality service delivery at all times.
