The Federal Government’s resolve to make Nigeria a maritime hub received further boost, following the official handover of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for 90 hectares of land by the Oyo State Government for Moniya Inland Dry Port development.
The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, FMM&BE, Olufemi Oloruntola, while receiving the documents from the Oyo State, Deputy Governor, Abdul-Raheem Lawal, behalf of the Federal Government, described the gesture as a clear demonstration of partnership and shared vision between the Federal and the State Government to expand economic opportunities through modern trade.
As statement signed by Anastasia Ogbonna, Director, Information & PR, Federal Ministry of Marine And Blue Economy, made available to our correspondent disclosed that Olufemi, who rep- resented the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, extolled the State Government’s patriotic support towards attaining ideals of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Speaking further, he assured that the Moniya Inland Dry Port would be a strategic national project that would bring shipping services closer to importers and exporters, thereby stimulating industrial and agricultural growth across the entire South-West region.
Addressing the gathering, the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, Dr. Pius Akutah who was represented by the Director, Inland Transport Services, Ahmadu Garta, appreciated the Oyo State Government’s decision to partner with the Federal Government in the development of the Inland Dry Port. He emphasized the critical role of the project in national commerce, noting that Dry Ports remain an integral part of modern trade facilitation.
In his remarks, the Oyo State Deputy Governor, Lawal, appreciated the Federal Ministry of Marine & Blue Economy and the NSC for their resolve to develop vital transport infrastructure across the country. He reiterated the state’s unwavering commitment to the project, but urged the Ministry and the NSC to stay dedicated to the timeline.
“We are committed to seeing this project through, but we also implore the Ministry and the Council to ensure this project is delivered in time for the maximum benefit of the people of Oyo State and its environs,” the Deputy Governor concluded.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of the Certificate of Occupancy for the 90 hectares of land, followed by a brief joint inspection of the proposed project site by the combined team of officials from the Oyo State Government, the FMM&BE, and the NSC.
It is worth noting that the strategic location of the 90-hectare ceded land is further enhanced by its proximity to the Obafemi Awolowo Train Station which facilitates daily freight and passenger schedules on the route originating from Lagos (specifically, Apapa and Ebute Mette-Metta Stations) traversing intermediate locations before arriving at Moniya Ibadan, Oyo State.
Recall that recently the Ogun State Government handed over130 hectares of land to the Federal Government for the development of Ijebu-Ode Inland Dry Port.
