- To Boost Housing Development, Real Estate Value Chain in Côte d’Ivoire
The ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID) and the Banque de l’Habitat de Côte d’Ivoire (BHCI) signed a CFAF 10-billion financing agreement on 2 September 2026 to support housing finance and strengthen access to funding for SMEs and SMIs operating across Côte d’Ivoire’s real estate value chain.
The credit facility will enable BHCI to enhance its financing capacity for households, as well as for SMEs and SMIs active in construction, real estate development, public works, and related services.
This operation is expected to boost housing supply, stimulate economic activity, and create jobs in a context of rapid urbanisation and a persistent housing deficit in Côte d’Ivoire.
Through this financing, EBID reaffirms its commitment to supporting financial institutions that play a vital role in the economic and social development of its member states.
Dr. George Agyekum Donkor, President and Chairman of the Board of Directors of EBID, noted that strengthening BHCI’s capacity to intervene will help expand access to housing finance, support SME growth and foster job creation in a sector that remains critical to inclusive growth and community well-being across the region.
For BHCI, the facility will help consolidate the transformation and recovery achieved in recent years while deepening support for stakeholders throughout the real estate value chain, whose activities contribute significantly to value creation and reducing Côte d’Ivoire’s housing deficit.
BHCI’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Soungalo N’Golo Coulibaly described the agreement as a major step forward in advancing the institution’s mission to finance housing and support industry actors.
Through this transaction, EBID further consolidates its role as a strategic partner for private sector development and the mobilisation of high-impact financing across West Africa.
