- Launches Life Production Academy
The Business of live events productions, light, Sound, video and all that have to do with ensuring that live events are hitch free are driven by creative artists in the production segment.
These production engineers or crew have in most cases deployed their creative talents and professions to give life to events watched or monitored by people not only at the venue, but also from different parts of the globe.
Remarkably, these sound, light, video, photo, decor, and other live production experts, end up as super professionals in their skills, but in most cases remain broke.
To empower the teeming numbers of live production engineers, Amplify 2026 assembled over 1000 youths in the skill of production, to educate them on transforming their skills from receiving handouts for their professional services, to having structured businesses that negotiate deals on conditions and payments that suit them.
The Thursday event which held at Celebr8 Acme Road Ikeja Lagos, was crowned with the launch of Amplify Life Production Academy.
Temidayo Oladehin, who was introduced by the convener, Ewedemi as his mentor in the United Kingdom in his presentation on business structures and growth said that the business side of things including live productions was something to be learned, not something to win
Oladehin said that what you build is meant to outlast the applause and that has shaped how he thinks about every contract he has signed since. “Now, when I say structure, Structure is knowing your real day rate. The one accounts for the gear, the prep, the travel, the years you spend getting good. Now, if you ask a normal sound engineer in the UK how much is their day rate, they probably tell you 400 pounds a day. Now, what does that 400-count entail? Your day rate. If you were to ask me what my day rate is, the minimum I would tell you is 1500 pounds, because you’re not paying me for the day; you’re paying me for 20 years of experience”
He added that structure is a contract, even a one-page, so that when a job goes sideways, and jobs do go sideways, you are protected by paper and not by your relationship with somebody who has already paid you
“Structure is knowing the difference between your turnaround and your profits, because plenty of people in the industry are tolling over serious money and keeping almost none of it
