There are moments in life when one pauses to reflect on the people whose presence has profoundly altered the course of one’s journey. Such moments remind us that while family is often defined by blood, destiny is frequently shaped by those whom God deliberately places in our path. Today, as I celebrate the birthday of my Godfather, Prof. Olatunji Dare, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for the immeasurable blessings that have come into my life through this remarkable man.

Some relationships are born out of family ties; others are born out of divine purpose. My relationship with Prof. Olatunji Dare falls into the latter category. God, in His infinite wisdom, brought him into my life at a time when I needed guidance, encouragement, and direction. Since then, he has remained a pillar of support, a dependable mentor, and a father whose generosity of spirit has transformed not only my life but also the lives of countless others.

Simply describing him as my Godfather would not do justice to the immense role he has played in my life’s journey. He is a teacher whose classroom extends beyond the four walls of any institution. He is a mentor whose wisdom has illuminated the paths of many aspiring professionals. He is a helper whose kindness has opened doors for people who otherwise may never have had the opportunity to realise their dreams. Above all, he is a man whose life reflects the virtues of humility, integrity, compassion, and excellence.

Prof. Dare belongs to that rare generation of intellectuals who have successfully combined scholarship with humanity. His distinguished career in journalism, media studies, public communication, and academia has earned him respect across Nigeria and beyond. Yet, despite his towering accomplishments, what distinguishes him most is not merely his professional success but the simplicity with which he relates to people and his unwavering commitment to lifting others.

The journalism profession has produced many outstanding individuals, but only a select few can truly be described as builders of men and women. Prof. Olatunji Dare occupies that distinguished position. Through his teaching, mentorship, writings, and personal example, he has inspired generations of journalists, communication scholars, editors, broadcasters, media executives, and public servants. His influence is reflected not only in the institutions he has served but also in the countless professionals whose lives bear the imprint of his guidance.

I consider myself extraordinarily privileged to be among those whose lives have been enriched by his generosity. All thanks to my boss, Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, who gave me the platform to come in contact with Prof. Olatunji Dare. His support has never been transactional. He gives because giving is part of who he is. He mentors because he believes that knowledge finds its highest value only when it is shared. He encourages because he understands that a single word of hope can change the direction of another person’s life.

Perhaps what moves me most is the genuine concern he has consistently shown for my family. Although we are not connected by blood, he has demonstrated a father’s love in every sense of the word. His interest extends beyond professional success; he cares deeply about the well-being of those around him. Such kindness is increasingly rare in today’s world, where genuine relationships are often overshadowed by self-interest. His life reminds us that true greatness is measured not by titles or accomplishments but by the number of lives one positively influences.

Personally, knowing Prof. Olatunji Dare remains one of the greatest blessings God has bestowed upon me. Some people come into our lives for a season, and there are those whose influence becomes part of our life’s foundation. He belongs to the latter. His counsel has strengthened me during moments of uncertainty. His encouragement has renewed my confidence during difficult times. His motivation birthed my first book “Don’t Kill That Dream”. A must read by every young individual. It is a message about persistence, purpose, and never give up despite life’s challenges. His belief in my potential has inspired me to pursue excellence with greater determination.

As I reflect on everything he has done for me, I realize that gratitude alone is insufficient to express what is in my heart. Every opportunity he has created, every lesson he has taught, every word of encouragement he has spoken, and every act of kindness he has extended have contributed immensely to the person I continue to become. These are gifts that cannot be measured in material terms because they have lasting value that transcends generations.

Beyond his remarkable achievements, Prof. Dare exemplifies leadership rooted in character. In a society where influence is sometimes pursued for personal gain, he has consistently demonstrated that authentic leadership is about service, sacrifice, and empowering others. His life is an enduring lesson that true success is not merely about climbing the ladder of achievement but about reaching out to help others climb alongside you.

His legacy will not merely be found in the books he has written, the lectures he has delivered, the articles he has published, or the institutions he has served. His greatest legacy will be found in the thousands of lives he has inspired, the countless careers he has shaped, and the enduring values he has passed from one generation to another. Such a legacy cannot be erased by time because it lives on in people.

As you celebrate another birthday today, Sir, my prayer is simple but heartfelt. May the Almighty continue to strengthen you physically, mentally, spiritually, and emotionally. May He bless you with sound health, renewed strength, divine protection, and abundant peace. May your wisdom continue to illuminate the paths of those who seek knowledge. May your influence continue to expand across generations, and may your latter years be even more fruitful than the former.

May the Lord reward every sacrifice you have made in building lives. May every seed of kindness you have sown return to you in overflowing blessings. May your family continue to experience God’s favour and protection. May your days be filled with joy, your heart with peace, and your home with laughter. Above all, may God grant you many more years to continue touching lives, mentoring future leaders, and contributing to the advancement of journalism, education, and society.

On this special occasion, I join your family, friends, colleagues, students, protégés, admirers, and the entire journalism community in celebrating an extraordinary human being whose life continues to make the world a better place.

Happy Birthday, my Godfather, mentor, teacher, and benefactor, Prof. Olatunji Dare.

Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for standing by me. Thank you for caring for my family. Thank you for being God’s instrument of transformation in my life. Your impact is immeasurable. Your legacy is secure.

May the Almighty continue to bless and preserve you, sir

Happy Birthday, Sir.
