Tinubu, APC Government Dancing On Blood’ — PDP
- Condemns Nigeria’s Ranking In 2026 Global Terrorism Index
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has berated the administration of President Bola Tinubu over Nigeria’s ranking in the 2026 Global Terrorism Index, accusing the Nigerian government of failing in its primary responsibility to protect lives and property.
In a press statement is- sued on Thursday and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, the opposition party described Nigeria’s fourth-place ranking globally on the impact of terrorism as a damning indictment of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Citing the report released by the Institute for Economics and Peace, the PDP said Nigeria, alongside four other countries, accounted for nearly 70 percent of global terrorism related deaths, while also recording one of the two largest increases in fatalities.
“The just-released Global Terrorism Index 2026… indicates that our country, under the leadership of the APC-led Government, has infamously earned a fourth position in the world on the impact of terrorism survey,” the statement read.
It added, “Nigeria also had one of the two largest increases in deaths from terrorism.
While this report is not surprising to Nigerians, it is most painful that people who promised and were elected and appointed to secure our country are winning, dining, and dancing in a faraway land, whilst terrorists are killing and kidnapping citizens rampantly.”
The party said the findings of the global report reflect the harsh reality faced daily by Nigerians, warning that insecurity has worsened significantly under the current administration.
“This global report aligns with the daily lived reality of Nigerians, who are now more insecure than they have ever been in this Fourth Republic,” the statement noted.
The PDP further alleged that insecurity has evolved into a profitable enterprise, claiming it has grown into a “trillion-naira economy” under President Tinubu’s leadership.
“In fact, under President Tinubu’s watch, insecurity has not just become very lucrative, it has attained a trillion-naira economy status,” the party said.
The opposition party also faulted what it described as the government’s reactive approach to security, urging a shift towards more proactive and inclusive measures.
We call on the President and the entire security hierarchy to stop performing reactive responses that have defined post-attack communications and rather adopt a whole-of-society approach towards solving insecurity,” the statement said.
The PDP further called for the implementation of policies aimed at ensuring both immediate cessation of violence and long-term peacebuilding.
“Furthermore, they should evolve programmes and policies capable of delivering negative peace (cessation of attacks and incidents) immediately and providing the basis for positive peace (voluntary and unforced harmonious co-existence),” the PDP added.
Reiterating that the protection of lives and property is the foremost duty of any government, the party accused the Tinubu administration of consistently failing in that regard.
“It needs reminding that the primary duty of every government is the protection of lives and property, a task that this administration has consistently failed glaringly,” the statement said.
The PDP, however, urged the President to deploy his political experience in addressing the worsening security crisis across the country.
“We appeal to the President to deploy his famed political ‘mastery’ to provide a solution to the security of lives and property. Nigerians are tired of being killed for no reason,” the party stated.
