SAPZ Projects to reduce farmers — Herdsmen crisis, expand prosperity — KWSG

Kwara State Government has assured that the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) Project is developmental driven designed to expand prosperity scopes and advantage for farmers aimed at reducing farmers – herds- men crisis in the state.

This was made known by the State Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Honourable Oloruntoyosi Thomas, while addressing community stakeholders, during a sensitisation programme held in Igbaja, Ifelodun Local Government Area of the State.

Thomas, who noted that the SAPZ initiative is another dimension of the Governor of the State, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, to stimulate wealth and enhance food security in all parts of the State to improve the welfare of the masses.

The Commissioner explained that the project would improve productivity along the value chain, with concentration on livestock (dairy and meat production) and consideration for intervention, covering maize, rice and soya beans, noting further that this approach to farming would create multiple jobs for Kwarans.

While commending Gover- nor AbdulRazaq for his dedication to agricultural revolution by embarking on different projects, meant to address hunger, poverty and improve the economy of the state, the commissioner ex- pressed delight over the acceptance of the project, by the people at the grassroots level.

Explaining the SAPZ to participants at the event, the State Project Coordinator, Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones Project, Engr Dr. Busari Toyin Isiaka, stressed that the Agricultural Transformation Center to be sited at Olodan, Ifelodun Local Government Area along with the ones to be built in Afon, Kaiama and Baruteen, would serve the Agro-Industrial Hub in Malete, with necessary resources.

Represented by the Project Livestock Specialist, Mr. Abdul- fatah Lekan Ambali, the Coordinator explained that the SAPZ project is private sector-led and government enabled, this, he noted, would elongate the span of the project.

Earlier The Elese of lgbana, Oba Dr. (Alhaji) Ahmed Babalola Awuni, said Governor AbdulRazaq deserves people’s accolades for his scorecards in the agricultural sector, adding that, his determination to tackling unemployment and poverty through agricultural creativity will be in the memory of Kwarans forever.

The monarch stated that the SAPZ project would go a long way to reduce the farmer-herdsmen crisis assured Governor AbdulRazaq led-administration of his people’s support for the project.
