The Rivers State High Court in Port-Harcourt has restrained the state’s Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (retd.), from inaugurating the newly confirmed chairman and members of the Rivers State Services Commission, pending judgment in an ongoing legal dispute.
Justice Frank Onyiri issued the order on Monday after both parties adopted their final written addresses in the case filed by the commission’s former leadership, who were appointed by sus- pended Governor Siminialayi Fubara.
The claimants — Good- life Ben, Amadi Echele, Chimenem Jerome, and three others — are challenging their suspension by Ibas, arguing that their appointments were lawful, having been confirmed by the Rivers State House of Assembly and properly documented with the clerk of the House.
In their affidavit, they maintained that the sole administrator lacks the legal author- ity to remove or replace them.
Meanwhile, Justice Onyiri subsequently ordered all parties to maintain the status quo and adjourned the matter to September 29, 2025, for judgment.
The suspended members are among several officials recently removed by the state’s sole administrator, including leader- ship of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission.
