Polaris Bank refutes reports of over 34 victims in broad street branch fire
- Says no casualty
A fire incident that occurred at the Polaris bank, Broad street on Thursday morning disrupted banking services with the attendant tension and struggle for safety that ensued and fear of high casualty rate.
However, the bank in a swift release and reaction to reported fear of about 34 suspected victims of the inferno, that followed said that not one died.
A report signed by the Polaris Bank management obtained by our correspondent said that the fire incident recorded no casualty. “We are pleased to confirm that there were no casualties or fatalities” the bank said.
The bank’s statement further stated, “Earlier today, a fire incident occurred at our Broad Street Branch, Lagos, originating from a customer’s vehicle parked on the 3rd floor car park
“Our emergency response procedures were immediately activated, and with the swift intervention of firefighters and other emergency responders, the fire was successfully contained.
“We are pleased to confirm that there were no casualties or fatalities”
The bank refuted the earlier social media reports that over 34 persons were feared, adding that such reports “are false and entirely inaccurate”
According to management of Polaris bank “Assessments and investigations into the incident are ongoing. We appreciate the prompt response of the emergency services and the support of our staff, customers, and stakeholders”
Meanwhile a report by the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS) dated June 18, 2026, on the Polaris bank fire incident, titled “FIRE OUT AT POLARIS BANK TOWER, LAGOS ISLAND” signed by Margaret Adeseye Controller General, and obtained by our correspondent read,
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully extinguished a fire outbreak that occurred on the 3rd floor of the Polaris Bank Building, located at 61/65 Broad Street, Lagos Island.
The incident was reported at approximately 11:33 hours and involved a stationary saloon car parked on the 3rd floor of the 17-storey building, which serves as a parking facility
