The Federal Government on Thursday, said it had started strategic engagements in global aviation finance to advance the industry.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr Festus Keyamo, said this at the 2025 Ministerial Media Briefing Series, organised by the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation in Abuja.

Keyamo said he participated in the Boing Lessor Forum at the Airline Eco- nomics Growth Frontiers Conference in Dublin, Ireland to reveal the stance of Nigeria.

He said his engagements with leading aircraft lessors, investment firms, and industry stakeholders focused on securing favourable lease terms for Nigerian carriers, fostering direct partnerships, and enhancing Nigeria`s competitiveness in the global aviation sector.

“This effort aims to improve aircraft accessibility, reduce financing bottlenecks and position Nigeria as a key player in global aviation.

“As a result of these global compliance milestones, Boeing, and Cranfield University, a specialist postgraduate university in the UK have started to implement training with our domestic airlines.

“This is to fortify safety culture and operational excellence as agreed in the Seattle Memorandum of Understanding, “he said.

Keyamo said he spearheaded the renovation of long-neglected Hajj terminals nationwide with pilgrims, toward improving the pilgrimage experience.

The minister said the Aviation Working Group, (co-chaired by Boeing and Airbus) adjusted the global score (rating) of Nigeria on our compliance status from 49.5 per cent to 70.5 per cent.

“This happened in a swift response to Nigerias attempt to fully comply with the Cape Town Convention on dry-leasing of aircraft by preparing and signing the Practice Direction.

“Following the signing of the Administrative Rules governing aircraft repossession by creditors and lessors, known as the Irrevocable Deregistration and Export Request Authorization, Nigeria`s global aviation compliance score saw a significant improvement.
