Equity Investors Gain N100.5bn amidst Global Markets Tariff Turmoil

At the close of the trading on Tuesday, the local stock market rebounded, with the All-Share Index gaining 0.15% to settle at 104,376.73 points.

This modest uptick also lifted market capitalization by 0.15% to N65.59 trillion, adding approximately N100 billion to investors’ portfolios.

The NGX equities market capitalisation that opened the day’s trading at N65,488,799,978,072.45 trillion, closed the day higher at N 65,589,254,292,887.06 trillion, reflecting N100,454 billion growth.

Sectoral performance was mixed: the Banking and Oil & Gas sectors recorded gains of 1.89% and 0.04%, respectively, while the Insurance, Consumer Goods, and Industrial Goods sectors declined by 4.07%, 0.16%, and 0.11%.

The Commodity sector remained flat at 0%. Despite the rebound, market breadth was negative, as 16 stocks advanced against 42 decliners. Top gainers included NSLTECH, ABBEYBDC, STERLINGNG, VFDGROUP, and MBENEFIT, while OANDO, NAHCO, NEM, LASACO, and ROYALEX led the losers.

Trading activity was relatively subdued; while the volume and value of trades rose by 0.15% and 3.71%, respectively, the number of deals fell by 7.41%.

Overall, 460.57 million shares valued at 10.11 billion exchanged hands in 14,528 transactions.

NSLTECH led the day as the highest gainer with N0.04 or 8.89 per cent growth in share price, to close at N0.49 per share, followed by ABBEYBDS with N0.43 or 8.35 per cent growth, closing at N5.58, while STERLINGNG closed third in the group at N5.15 per share, following appreciation by N0.33 or 6.85 per cent.

UHOMREIT led the losers’ group with N5.10 or 9.95 per cent dip in share price, ending the day at N46.15, followed by NAHCO with N6.95 or 9.94 per cent loss, closing at N62.95, while NEM closed third in the group at N11.80, having depressed by N1.30 or 9.92 per cent.

Also, ACCESSCORP led the activity group on Tuesday with turnover of 56,497,979.00 million shares worth N1, 185,008,227.90 billion, followed by GTCO with 51,555,522.00 million volumes of traded shares worth N3, 430,470,391.35 billion, while FIDELITYBK closed third in the group with 24,067,010.00 million shares worth N431, 614,958.65 million.
