Tension flared in Abuja on Monday, January 26, 2026, as aggrieved workers reportedly pursued the motorcade of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, amid protests over unresolved welfare and salary issues.
The incident occurred during an ongoing strike by the workers, who had gathered to press demands bordering on unpaid entitlements, poor welfare conditions, and lingering labour grievances.
A video viral video on Facebook seen by our correspondent showed the protesters becoming visibly agitated as Wike’s convoy drove past the protest area.
The workers were heard chanting and moving towards the vehicles, prompting swift intervention by security operatives attached to the minister’s motorcade.
The protest underscored growing frustration among FCT workers, who accuse the authorities of failing to address their long-standing demands despite repeated appeals and negotiations.
The confrontation further highlighted the tense labour atmosphere in the nation’s capital, drawing public attention to the need for urgent dialogue between the government and the striking workers to prevent a further breakdown of order.
