The African Action Congress (AAC) has sued President Bola Tinubu before a federal high court in Abuja over his alleged failure to transmit power to VicePresident Kashim Shettima during his prolonged vacation in Europe.
The suit, marked FHC/ ABJ/CS/2353/2026, was filed on Monday by Inibehe Effiong, AAC national legal adviser.
The plaintiffs include Tinubu, Lateef Fagbemi, attorney-general of the federation (AGF) and minister of justice; Godswill Akpabio, senate president; Tajudeen Abbas, speaker of the house of representatives; and the national assembly. They were all sued in their official capacities.
The opposition party is asking the court to determine when.

A federal high court in Abuja has fixed October 13 to hear an application by Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), seeking to amend his suit against President Bola Tinubu and the All-Progressives Congress (APC).
Inyang Ekwo, presiding judge, fixed the date on Monday after lawyers for the parties informed the court that processes relating to the application needed to be regularised.
Joseph Silas, counsel to Atiku and the ADC, told the court that he had received responses from the other defendants but was yet to receive Tinubu’s counter affidavit.
